The Rural Rother Trust awards grants to individuals in difficult circumstances in Burwash and the surrounding Rother area. Some examples of grants awarded are for replacement white goods, replacement fences and help with flood damage.
If you are facing difficulty and would like to find out more about accessing this grant please contact Stephen Hardy, Clerk to the Rural Rother Trust on 07831 494 028.
Applications are straight forward, don’t require an application form and are turned around quickly.
The Trust is still open to applications from community organisations, but priority is given to cases of individual need.
Received from PCSO Emma Phillips…
Overnight we have received two reports of catalytic converter thefts, one overnight 11 January in Whatlington and a further one in Iden reported today, 12 January.
Honda and Volvo vehicles have been targeted.
We encourage you to continue reporting any thefts to us, so we can build a picture of the crimes and respond effectively.
Having spoken to the victims, these thefts don’t just impact the financial loss but weigh heavy on the need of transport and inconvenience at such a difficult time.
Steps to protect your vehicle include parking in a garage overnight or in a secure compound. If this is not possible, people are urged to park in an area that’s well-lit and overlooked.
We encourage you to park so that the convertor can’t be easily reached by potential thieves. Vehicles that sit high above the road are particularly vulnerable.
More information can be found on the Secured by Design website. Further measures on how to protect your car from thieves can also be found on the Sussex Police website.
Anyone who has been a victim of a catalytic converter theft, or who may have any other information including relevant CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage, is asked to contact police. This can be done either online or by calling 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency.
Etchingham Village Hall has been confirmed for use for delivering the vaccine for the rural Rother area.
Preparations are in place and when it is your turn you will be contacted by the NHS. Please do not contact the surgery to ask about the vaccine.
Further information can be found here.
Following Huw Merriman’s meeting on the 11th January with the NHS commissioners and the Sussex Community Foundation NHS Trust who are leading the vaccination programme for Sussex, Huw had produced a newsletter update which can be viewed at this link https://mailchi.mp/7a9df1d1ca35/constituencynewsletter-11-january-2020-7179421
His office have created links from his newsletter to related section on his website which provides more information on many of the frequently asked questions we are receiving on the vaccination programme as well as on enforcement of social distancing and the national lockdown. The related pages on his website can be found at this link https://www.huwmerriman.org.uk/covid-19-mass-vaccination
Important Update
The Board of Directors of Battle Area Community Transport, have taken the decision that all of our bus services will be suspended until further notice. This is due to the significant increase in Covid infection rates. This decision has been taken to protect our volunteers, passengers and the wider community. The planned resumption of our B67 to B79 services on Monday 4th January 2021, will not go ahead. The situation will be monitored and the decision kept under review. We regret any inconvenience this causes our supporters.

#KeepingChristmasKind
Every minute of the working day a shopworker is verbally abused, threatened with violence or physically attacked.
76% of shopworkers say that incidents of violence, threats and abuse have been worse during Covid. Please show some kindness to those working hard to keep us going on the festive frontline this Christmas. #KeepingChristmasKind
The Crime Commissioners office have produced an emotive film featuring three families of shop workers who have been verbally abused, threatened with knives and even had a flare pulled out on them.
